The New Wolsey Theatre has been in Ipswich since the 1970s – and over the years we have built strong relationships with our local community, and we hope to continue building these important relationships especially with the members of ISSBA.
We’re an award-winning welcoming theatre that enriches the lives of people living in Suffolk and a vibrant cultural hub offering a diverse range of performances, community engagement and artist development. We have a national reputation for excellence, diversity, and accessibility and are dedicated to delivering this essential work.
We make our own productions as well as co-produce with UK and international theatres, and are renowned for staging world premieres and landmark revivals of musicals and plays which recently includes Little Shop of Horrors (currently on until 23 March), Boy On The Roof, The Red Lion, Brief Encounter, Kinky Boots, The Season (now transferring to the West End under the new title Two Strangers Carry a Cake), and our iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll pantomime. Coming to our stage in October 2024 is the awesome Footloose – tickets will be available from Thursday 18 April. We also present productions by acclaimed national touring companies and we support the work of emerging theatre companies and independent artists. We try to ensure there is something for everyone in our show programme.
The New Wolsey Theatre is partially funded by Arts Council England, Suffolk County Council, and Ipswich Borough Council and is supported by local business sponsors as well as corporate and private members. As a not-for-profit charity, we rely on their investment, and we are very grateful for their unwavering support that allows us to fulfil our mission.
We offer a range of individual and corporate memberships packages which are a great way of supporting the work we are doing in Suffolk. Individual (Private) Memberships start at just £40 a year with a host of benefits from priority booking and season tickets savings, to complimentary drinks and ice creams, and invites to our exclusive Members’ events. Our higher level members also receive Café & Bar discounts, Opening Night invites and even their own seat plaque in the theatre! We also offer corporate packages of all levels and sponsorship opportunities too.
Our fabulous Café and Bar spaces can be hired out for corporate events, community groups and regular meetings - we serve great coffee (locally ground), teas, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and hot and cold snacks – try our Cheese toasties – you won’t be disappointed!
