How to make the most of the ABE Virtual Summit

ABE Virtual Summit organisers, Merie Sennett and Ruth Cheesley, share their tips and advice for making the most of this exciting event.

Following the success of ISSBA’s first ABE Virtual Summit in May this year, we are holding a second one on Tuesday 8th September.Event social promo FB

2020 has been an unusual year to say the least but one thing we have all learned is how to adapt and innovate in order to keep our businesses going and even flourishing during these unprecedented times.

The Virtual Summit will again provide live webinars, pre-recorded video talks, digital offers and giveaways as well as lots of networking. Best of all, it is totally free to attend! You can either stay for the whole day or dip in and out to just attend the sessions that really catch your eye.

So, what can you do to really get the most out of the event?

  • Register in advance via As talks are added to the schedule, you will be notified so that you can book the sessions you want to attend.
  • Make sure you have signed up to the emails and reminders. As well as new sessions, the system will send out reminders for each of your sessions.
  • Organise your schedule for the day. Once you have decided which sessions you’d like to attend, block out the relevant time from your calendar so that you are free to focus on them.
  • Check your equipment! A laptop/desktop with a Chrome browser is recommended, other browsers are supported but Chrome works best. You can wat the talks on a mobile device but there will be no social lounge i.e. you won’t have access to networking. Headphones and a microphone are recommended, particularly if you have other people around you. Make sure your equipment is set up ready and working including your internet connection. It is also worth double checking that anything that needs to be is charged up beforehand.
  • Familiarise yourself with the platform. We gave a demo of the platform at our networking event on 26th August but if you didn’t manage to join us for that, the platform is called Airmeet and you can find out more here.
  • Offers/giveaways – make sure you have registered for any prize giveaways and check the Summit site to see what offers you could benefit from.
  • Spread the word! Everyone is welcome to join us for this event so feel free to share the booking link with your contacts and via your social media channels.
  • Background – Airmeet doesn’t allow you to use a virtual background so make sure the area you are sitting in is presentable!

  • PC/laptop – it is recommended to NOT have multiple tabs open as this can result in disconnects. One tab only!
  • Talks – these will be a combination of 30 minute live webinars and 10 minute pre-recorded videos covering a range of useful and interesting topics.
  • There will be lots of networking sessions throughout the day and you can join in as many of these as you like.
  • Take notes! It can be really useful to have somewhere to jot down any notes during the day. This could be useful info from talks, things to follow up on after the event or new contacts.
  • You will hopefully meet lots of new contacts as well as reconnecting with existing contacts you haven’t seen for a while. Don’t forget to get keep a note of their contact details.
  • Watch now! Although the talks will all be available to watch after the event, it is always better to watch them during the scheduled time if you can as it is too easy to save them for ‘later’ but then not get around to watching them.
  • Get involved. Above all, this is an interactive event and everyone is usually very friendly so join in with conversations and ask as many questions as you like.
  • Take breaks! It is very easy to get wrapped up in the action (speaking from experience!) so make sure you allow yourself some breaks for snacks, drinks, comfort or just to stretch your legs.

  • Follow ups. Make it a priority to schedule any follow ups or one to one meetings following the event. Don’t miss out on a hot new lead just because you didn’t get around to it!
  • Replays – if you did miss a talk or just wanted to re-watch one, they will all be available after the event and also added to our YouTube channel.
  • Anglia Business Exhibition 2021 – there are still stands and sponsorships available for our event in May 2021, and it will be the 25th anniversary of the event so promises to be extra special. If you don’t want to exhibit, join us on the day as a visitor. You can find out more at

Above all:

Have fun! It has been literally months since we’ve all been able to get out and meet people face to face so make the most of the next best thing and enjoy meeting everyone virtually.

Join with us to support each other, share information and enjoy lots of friendly conversations.
